The resources that I post are, with a few exceptions, intended to be used in high school classes. My resources are aligned with the Common Core Standards, and I have I included accommodation/modifications with most of my lessons. In addition to being an English Language Arts teacher, I am also an ESL teacher, so many of my lessons include tips/accommodations for English Language Learners. My lessons are grounded in the whole language approach and foster critical thinking in students.

This rubric has evolved over time and has been used to grade SAT timed writings, general classroom essays (both at the high school and college level), and essay assignments similar to state standardized tests. A hard copy can be printed and/or the electronic version can be sent to students (be sure to restrict the edit option under the Developer tab on the tool bar). This highly versatile rubric can be used to grade only content or the teacher can include a format and Grammar, Usage, Mechanics grade. It also has an Excel worksheet embedded in it to assign a grade.

This Jeopardy game is intended as a review before a unit exam. The unit included Shakespeare, Sonnets, Macbeth, and the Research process. It was used in a 12th grade class, but it can be used with any middle school or high school class. Jeopardy games are fun for students, but tedious to make. Once created, however, it can be modified to suit any unit of study.

This activity should be used in conjunction with the PowerPoint presentation on the King James Version of the Bible. It is intended for 12th grade students in a British Literature class. It can be used with all students, but it was designed as a modification to the lesson for students who needed assistance with taking notes.
